2000 GUINEAS 1827

The 19th winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Tuesday 1st May 1827 on the Rowley Mile, was Turcoman (5/1), a bay colt by Selim out of Pope Joan, owned by the 4th Duke of Grafton, who won by 2 lengths. A field of 5 runners contested the race which was worth 1600 Guineas (Equivalent to £152,700 in 2017). Note that, although the horse was usually trained by Robert Robson, he suffered a prolonged illness and Thomas Carter took over the training of Turcoman.
